Incremental value of PET and MRI in the evaluation of cardiovascular abnormalities

چکیده
UNLABELLED The cardiovascular system is affected by a wide range of pathological processes, including neoplastic, inflammatory, ischemic, and congenital aetiology. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET) are state-of-the-art imaging modalities used in the evaluation of these cardiovascular disorders. MRI has good spatial and temporal resolutions, tissue characterization and multi-planar imaging/reconstruction capabilities, which makes it useful in the evaluation of cardiac morphology, ventricular and valvar function, disease characterization, and evaluation of myocardial viability. FDG-PET provides valuable information on the metabolic activity of the cardiovascular diseases, including ischemia, inflammation, and neoplasm. MRI and FDG-PET can provide complementary information on the evaluation of several cardiovascular disorders. For example, in cardiac masses, FDG-PET provides the metabolic information for indeterminate cardiac masses. MRI can be used for localizing and characterizing abnormal hypermetabolic foci identified incidentally on PET scan and also for local staging. A recent advance in imaging technology has been the development of integrated PET/MRI systems that utilize the advantages of PET and MRI in a single examination. The goal of this manuscript is to provide a comprehensive review on the incremental value of PET and MRI in the evaluation of cardiovascular diseases. MAIN MESSAGES • MRI has good spatial and temporal resolutions, tissue characterization, and multi-planar reconstruction • FDG-PET provides valuable information on the metabolic activity of cardiovascular disorders • PET and MRI provide complementary information on the evaluation of cardiovascular disorders.

FDG-PET/MRI fused data sets for the detection of liver metastases in patients undergoing systemic anticancer treatment
Background: To retrospectively describe imaging characteristics of liver metastases on fused FDG-PET/ MRI data sets and to compare the diagnostic accuracy of MRI and fused FDG-PET/MRI data sets for the detection of liver metastases in patients undergoing systemic anticancer treatment. Materials and Methods: 43 oncological patients (mean age: 56+/- 11 years) were investigated by FDG-PET...

Objective(s): Post-treatment evaluations by CT/MRI (based on the International Working Group/ Cotswolds meeting guidelines) and PET (based on Revised Response Criteria), were examined in terms of progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with malignant lymphoma (ML). Methods: 79 patients, undergoing CT/MRI for the examination of suspected lesions and whole-body PET/CT before and after therapy...
متن کاملEvaluation of Cardiovascular and Lipid Profile Abnormalities in Obese Children and Adolescents
Background: The prevalence of childhood obesity has risen dramatically in past several decades. Hormonal and genetic factor are rarely the cause of childhood obesity. Because obese children may suffer life long physical and emotional consequences, this imperative to discuss prevention with parents during well- child examinations. The obesity–related cardiovascular and lipid profiles are determi...
متن کاملبررسی مقایسه ای ارزش تشخیصی روش های الکترودیاگنوستیک و رادیولوژیک در بیماران مبتلا به دردهای رادیکولر گردن
Background and purpose: Cervical radiculopathy is one of the most common diseases that must be diagnosed early and properly to prevent its serious side effects. For this purpose different paraclinical methods such as MRI, X-ray, EMG, NCV and SSEP are used. Each of these methods has its limitations and some of them are expensive or invassive. The aim of this study was to compare the electrodia...
متن کاملDiagnostic efficiency of 68Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT as compared to 99mTc-Octreotide SPECT/CT and conventional morphologic modalities in neuroendocrine tumors
Objective(s): In view of somatostatin receptor (SSR) expression on cell membranes of the majority of neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), functional imaging exploiting analogs of SSR alongside the anatomical imaging is the mainstay of this diagnostic modality. In this prospective study, we assessed and directly compared the diagnostic parameters of 68Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT and 99...
